Iraq signed last week with Ukraine a $550-billion weapons supply contract, as the first installment of a larger contract valued at $2.8 billion.
Ukraine will supply Iraq with Ukraine-made armored cars, tanks, jet fighters and other military equipment.
Alexander Kovalinko, who announced the signing of the agreement in Baghdad on December 11, said that his country had overcome competition from Poland, Russia, and China, and that the U.S. was instrumental in helping Ukraine win the contract because it participates in the multinational forces in Iraq.
